Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme - Youth Talent Program

Mrs. Joanne Thorn accompanied some of our elite performers to the Sydney Convention Centre to perform at Forum '09. This is an international forum held every three years and was last held in Australia 21 years ago. HRH Prince Philip was represented at the function by HRH Prince Edward, the Duke of Wessex. Daniel Gordon of Year 10 sang Bridge over Troubled Water and our dance ensemble dance to Canned Heat. The students were presented to the official party including Prince Edward, on stage after the performances. The concert was coordinated by the School Spectacular team and the Talent Development Project.

Free Workshops for Parents of Learner drivers

Newcastle City Council is offering a free 2 hour workshop for parents and supervisors of learner drivers, to offer practical advice on how to help learner drivers become safe drivers.

The course will be held on November 18 from 5.30 - 7.30 pm at the Newcastle Library.

Laptops for Learning

Student laptops will be issued to our Year 9 students from November 16, when the laptops are scheduled to arrive in the school.

We are pleased to welcome to our staff, Mrs. Santhi Vadlapatta who has been appointed as the Technical Support Officer and who has the principal role of supporting the implementation of the Digital Education Revolution program.

Prior to the issuing of the laptop, parents and students must certify that they agree to abide by the conditions of the Laptop User Charter. Both the parent and the student receiving the laptop must sign the charter.

A parent information session will be held in the Hunter Theatre on November 10 at 7pm. Where possible, all parents who have a child in year 9 should attend this meeting. The Laptop User Charter will be expalined and any questions about the responsibilities of the student will be answered.

For more information about the planned rollout, click here for the Parent Fact Sheet.
