Parents and Citizens Meetings

The P and C Association has a strong association with the school and together we are committed to ensuring that meetings are informative and engaging for parents. In the past our NSW Police Liaison officer has provided information for parents on Cybersafety. We have also had presentations on supporting resilience and mental well being of young people, and a Magistrate from the Childrens Court who gave an insight into the issues surrounding breakdowns in the family structure.  Parents who attended the last P and C meeting were taken on a backstage tour of the Hunter Theatre and its facilities. Some photos from that tour are shown below.

All parents are welcome to attend these meetings which are held in the Staff Common Room on the first Monday of each month at 7.30pm.

Teachers Stopwork Meeting 18/5/12
The NSW Teachers Federation has encouraged all its members to stop work to attend meetings on Friday May 18. Teachers from this school have indicated that they will attend those meetings which start at 9am. As a result only minimal supervision can be guaranteed for your child at school until 11.00 am. This supervision will take place in the main quadrangle.

Roll call will be held at 11.15am and normal lessons will resume at 11.30 am. The canteen will remain open.

The following activities remain unaffected:

·        Students involved in the Tech run and rehearsal for Lord of the Flies at 9 am
·        Students required to catch up one or more NAPLAN exams at 9am in the LIBRARY
·        The Year 10 excursion to the Careers Expo at 1pm
·        The Year 12 Visual Arts excursion to Art Express at 11.30 am
·        StarStruck Rehearsal at Newcastle University Forum
Year 12 Debating
"Last Friday  the Year 12 debating team: Cara Egan,. Sarah Cooper, Alex Leighton and Rachel Adams went to Tuggerah Lakes Secondary College for round two of the Permier's Debating Challege. Our team began the debate at a distinct disadvantage as I am not their usual coach, Rachel was ill and had to act as 4th, Sarah had to move to third from her usual position in second and Alex had never participated in senior debating; he was a last minute replacement for Josh Montford who was unfortunately unable to attend due to prior commitments (he was representing the school at the regional country meet so it would be great if he was acknowledged along with the other members of the team.)

The debate was "That Independents are good for democracy" and our team were arguing the negative perspective - a difficult position to argue. It was a very close result, our team gave it everything they had but were, unfortunately, pipped at the post by a very good team from TLSC. I would like to acknowledge how unbelievably proud of our students I was. They were gracious in defeat, extremely warm hearted towards the opposition and they represented our school in the best possible manner. It was an honour to chaperone them and I would do so again in a hearbeat."  Mrs Alison Byrne
NSW School Aboriginal Dance Company

Congratulations to Kassidy Waters, Djalar Donovan, Sian Filipo, Mililma May and Leonie Whyman who have been selected to be part of the NSW Pubvlic Schools Aboriginal Dance Company.

This is a most prestigious nomination for our students. Selection for a place he NSW Public Schools Aboriginal Dance Company is highly competitive. It is run in conjunction with the NSW Arts Unit and Bangarra Dance.
