Strategies to Promote Positive Student Behaviour
Hunter School of the Performing Arts is a school that fosters a strong sense of community. Staff, students and parents actively cooperate to support students and promote excellence in the performing arts.
- Students who break the school rules will be disciplined fairly and consistently and their right to be heard will be respected. Students who are repeatedly in breach of the school’s code of conduct or who commit serious breaches will be dealt with in accordance with the DET Suspension and Expulsion Policy.
- Curriculum is differentiated to suit students differing needs and abilities
- Staff set high and achievable standards.
- Teachers provide a teaching program that is high in intellectual quality, significance and in a quality learning environment
- Assessments are used to provide frequent, informative and constructive feedback.
- The school provides a wide range of extra and co-curricular activities in which all students can achieve.
- Planned systematic support is coordinated through the Learning Support Team for students who are experiencing difficulty.
- Students are given opportunities to participate in forums such as classroom meetings, year meetings, the SRC and school committees where their feedback and suggestions on significant issues is sought and responded to.
- Students are given responsibilities in the classroom and in the school.
- Students are held accountable for their behaviour and are required to make explicit choices about their future behaviour when they misbehave.
- Staff set clear limits and boundaries and are firm and persistent when students test them.
- The school recognises, celebrates and rewards achievement in all aspects of school life.
Recognising Student Achievement
The Commendation scheme operates to reward students' application, academic excellence, behavior, helpfulness, kindness and willingness to participate in the full spectrum of the school.
